AA HPI check shows DVLA Registration vs V5c are different
Discussion
Hi.
Found a car I want to buy so ran an AA/HPI check. It shows car model as a TSI Semi-Automatic 7 gear, but the car is TSI Manual transmission 6 gear - 100 manual with proper cluch.
Seems the discrepancy can cause problems getting insurance/ may invalidate insurance, let alone the fact that automatic brings higher insurance cost anyway. Plus would info like emissions rating etc in the spec likely be incorrect.
Am I right to insist that the car dealer sorts this out before I commit to buying - seems can takd up to 4 weeks gor DVLA to consider the change request after it receives evidence from him.
From what I've read, the Insurance companies are linked to the info held on the Registration database, not what's on the V5 / V5C, and that's same for the police. The Registration database trumps what's on the V5
Sorry, new to this car stuff, just been desperately reading up online & having contacted DVLA direct. Dealer trying to fob me off that I can do it at the Post Office - no you can't, it has to go to DVLA direct.
Any thoughts? Thanks all

My current VW, bought new is a manual, however the V5 incorrectly states it's semi-automatic although the Co2 and hence the VED rating is correct for a manual. I believe it's an error that occurs during the import process. I'm aware of batches of other VWs having the same issue.
I've never had any issues with insurance as I just input the car manually rather than by reg number and life's too short to get into a discussion with DVLA to fix it
I your situation I would get the dealer to resolve the issue before buying.
