It's horrible to have to read about this, and I obviously echo everyone when I wish him well.
But am I surprised? Sadly, nope.

Alcohol is a poison. The odd pint or glass here and there on occasion is fine, but as a bloke once you get that pregnant look beer belly...its a sign things have got out of hand and you're slowly killing yourself.
And we all know smoking is just dumb.
Yes...I know plenty of fit people get these horrible diseases too of course...but getting yourself fitter means you're more likely to fight whatever life throws at you.
Get well soon Jeremy!!

Sad news - but JC seems to be one of those people who, a bit like Keith Floyd, has decided to live life entirely on his owns terms and sod the consequences.

I wish him well.

Wishing him a speedy recovery, but as others have said, he hasn’t exactly looked after his health.

Likewise, hope Jezzer recovers and he sees the error of his ways health wise.

Must admit he has had a massive belly for a long time but like you say, he hasn’t been the most health conscious person but let’s hope he can pull through.

I had two lumps in my throat. No symptoms. They were found on Monday and my operation, under NHS, was set for the following Monday due to the threat rating. If they were found to be malignant, I'd have a tracheotomy. I would lose my job. I had a word with the very pleasant surgeon who asked whether I smoked and how much I drank. When I told him I was tee-total and didn't smoke, he said that he did the operations three times a week with 6 'customers', although I was a 7th, for some six(? Memory fails) years and had never performed a tracheotomy on someone who neither drank nor smoked, but that there was always a first time.

If you drink and smoke at the same time, ie, pint in one hand, fag in tother, your risk of throat cancer was dozens of times higher.

I got into a TVR just after Clarkson vacated it and I got out immediately. It stank of fags. He was impregnated with the stench.

The lumps were benign but I discovered, or rather the anaesthetist did, that I suffered from malignant hyperthermia. My heart stopped on the operating table. So plusses and minuses on the day.

Given the latest episodes would have been filmed last year, you have to hope things are reasonably stable?

Yeah he never was a picture of health, he liked a pint and a fag.

But 66 is pretty young. Let's hope he's tough enough for the treatment. The newspapers described it as "aggressive" which is never good, i.e. its returning after treatment or has metastasized...

I'll be honest, i thought it would be going into politics next, he's a staunch Tory and god help them they need some personality if they are not going to get wiped out by Farage. But maybe not now.

There's a lot of assumptions being made as i recall he hasn't disclosed the type of cancer

I don't drink and I have never smoked and always led a very healthy lifestyle yet 4 years ago I was out of the blue diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer

Even my consultant is amazed I'm still here !

Cancer does what cancer does and it's indiscriminate , I don't think it's good assuming it's a result of his lifestyle tbf

He did say..

"In a separate discussion with Cooper in the following episode, Clarkson confirmed the type of cancer, telling him: "The prostate, 10% of it is dead, the 10% where the cancer is.""

He's not looked particularly well for a while. Wish him all the best for a speedy recovery but the fact he's got cancer isn't a massive surprise given his lifestyle.

He's always revelled in his unhealthy lifestyle. Cancer in people who live well, and have the hideous misfortune of suffering from it is one thing, in a man that celebrates smoking because it fits in with his tiresome contrarian image, entirely another. If you do something known to be stupid and suffer its completely predictable consequences, I am miraculously short of sympathy.
