Hello

Just bought 2012 Virage with 20k km mileage on it.
Original engine and gear.

After taking the car on light spin I received a message on the dashboard "emission system service required".

I took the car to a mechanic and he scanned the fault and it was (P0171) and (P0174) and he cleared the faults.

After 10 minutes of driving the fault came out again.

So my question is. Is the fault serious or I can ignore it for the time being.

Thank you

The 2 banks are getting a burn too lean code.

Common causes are a vacuum leak, MAF sensor faults, Lambda sensor faults or clogged up injectors.

Maybe fuel pump issues, low fuel pressure?

Do you have aftermarket airfilters on?

Maybe to get more specific you need to go to a garage that has AMDS

A quick search suggests those messages are related to the fuel/air mixture being too lean.

Given the age and mileage, I'd suggest you've got a load of rubber components (hoses, seals, etc) which have perished through age and/or under use. These are leaking air into the system and need replacing.

Is it safe... I'm not qualified to say but given the evidence, I'd suggest there's going to be more issues lurking.

I have a 2016 V8 Vantage N430 and during my recent trip to Scotland I also saw this message it wasn’t long after Imhad filled the tank and I remembered that one of the potential causes is the fuel filler cap wasn’t fitted tight enough. So at the next break I did just that and tightened it a couple of extra turns (well clicks) and the issue disappeared after we got going again. It seems much more common with Vantages, I’ve had an early V8 2006 and a 2011 V12 both of which had the issue pop up! Another fix people mention is to drive it like you’ve stollen it and that often clears the issue at the next start up!

I got that on my DB9 after giving it a couple of bootfuls of throttle on a friend's drive. After a week or two the message got bored and went away - and there's no such thing as an 'emissions service' anyway...

Did the same thing with a Vanquish and it said 'Next service due' - even though it isn't!

Thats literally just turning out the light without seeing what the problem is.. if thats fuel or oil on the O2 sensor on the V12 you could be lunching your cats/engine... A guy on FB litteraly posted the same question a few months ago, everyone told him to do an 'itallian tune up', then he came back a couple of weeks later saying his vanquish needed an engine rebuild.
