As above really and I think I already know the answer but I’m interested in options I might have not considered:

£7-8k
Great sound
Interesting engine
Makes you look back at it every time you get out
Coupe probably but not a deal breaker
Doesn’t need to handle on rails, it won’t be on a track
Doesn’t need to be insanely fast, can’t drive quickly these days anyway
No convertibles

What would you be looking at?

Jaguar XK 4.2 2006 on X150 model. You will get a good one for that price, just check for body corrosion, subframe rust and signs of regular servicing.

Can you get a Z4 coupe 3.0si for £8k. Always had a soft spot for those.

You can, although it may have some miles on it which doesn't matter too much as the N52 engine is pretty bulletproof.

Of the options suggested a Z4 Coupe would be the one I'd be most likely to look back at, but I'm somewhat biased as I'm on my third now!

But in the looks stakes a 350Z, XK8 or CL Mercedes run it close.

Alfa Brera V6.

This one is advertised over budget, I think the price is unrealistic.

There weren’t any others to show you…

E300/ 320 will be totally mute...

Only ones that will sound a bit throaty will be the ones with 55 in the model designation. You might get a warble out of a 500, as standard, though.

Did a quick browse on Autotrader as it's an interesting set of requirements, only car that really stood out to me was the Jaguar XK.

Another vote for a 4200GT.
Definitely available on your budget, but likely to be riddled with issues.
Would be a gamble.

I think you may've had one before, or a PHer with a similar username.

A little over budget but an iconic car, and very cool.

Manual version of this S5 do crop up and I have seen plenty over the years at <£8k. A manual naturally aspirated V8 will never be dull.

Is there a reason you have specified no convertibles?

I only ask because the budget you have:
Early Boxters are starting to look very good VFM and quite classic now.

TVR S series and wedges are on budget. But I guess these aren't your thing...

It would be between a 350Z and a Z4 Coupe for me I think.
