Had to change our built in oven and the new one has arrived but the plug is too short to reach the socket.

Is it easy just to extend the plug cable to a length it will fit?

Or could I use a simple short extension cable?

Newbie to electrics so plus excuse if the question is stupid.

Thanks

I'd prefer to just add an other socket box to the left by a foot than use some random Amazon extension. Sparkies generally charge under £100 for it and you'll know it's decent. Or maybe get them to wire to an isolator/fused spur

The linked extension has 1mm cores: I'd suggest something a bit heavier:

The socket seems to be surface mounted so it ought to be straightforward to replace the socket with this 3-way device plus surface mount box, effectively moving the socket to the left. When replacing the surface mount box it also might be possible to move it slightly to the left and gain a few extra cm.

The socket is presumably (check!) part of a ring, so extend the ring by adding a new single socket to the left
