Hi, I'd really like some advice on what to do here:

I bought a Rapide S in early April from a general prestige dealer. The car came with a 6 month warranty, but on my first trip it came up with the DSC disabled warning and reduced perform. I took it straight back (day 1) and the errors were cleared, and over the next week they continually came on so they asked for the car back.

It was with their garage a month and they could not find what was wrong with it, they asked me what I wanted to do and I said I want it to go to the norths premier specialist and they agreed. So i booked it in with a 4 week lead time. 4 weeks later I took it up and left it. I called 1 week later and they'd not looked at it. I called 1 week later and they'd not looked at it (thats not a copy and paste error). And guess what that happened again another 2 weeks so it has been sat there 4 weeks without anyone looking at it.

My frustration built on the final call where I asked "is it ever going to come back this summer" etc and they pretty much said "just take it back then"

I feel utterly gutted about the whole thing. In 3 months I've driven the car a handful of times. I don't know what to do now, I have a feeling I will call next week and they will say the same as their response was utterly aloof and I feel like they don't even want to fix it. I have no idea where I stand with the origional garage even though he is trying everything I want to get this fixed.

I welcome all feedback frown

Without naming (as the mods can take a dim view), is the "north's premier specialist" an Aston Martin specialist, or just a self-anointed specialist in premier cars? Their attitude does seem to be just the other side of appalling.

Then, depending on the answer to the above, I'd be inclined to take the car to an actual Aston specialist. There's a very good chance that a competent Aston main dealer, wielding AMDS, would be able to quickly diagnose the problem. The alternatives would be a trip to someone like Bamford Rose in the Midlands, or Martin's Aston Services near Glasgow.

Members on here may be able to point you at other Aston Specialists in the north they would trust.

Yup "north's premier specialist" is an Aston Martin specialist. I don't even know if this is just "expected" for this type of car but everyone I have spoken to seems shocked at the service.

I'm waiting to speak to the place I bought the car from as it's still under warranty. But obviously every time it "moves" garage I feel like time is ticking down and I'll be left having to just fix it myself

Really appreciate the help Adam (I called the number), obviously I'm in Durham and having the car taken down to Chilton Aston.... I'm just trying to find something a little less erm radical ATM. I spoke to Billy though and honestly it was good to at least have someone hear that it is poor service that I'm receiving.

Is there any reason why you couldn't go to a main dealer? Newcastle, Nottingham and Bristol all appear to have great reputations

I specifically asked if the car to go to this specialist as I believed they had a "better than main dealer" reputation. They are local to me and I was hoping to see if this is where it would go to for regular servicing.

One of the main reasons now is that if i request Newcastle then that will be the 3rd garage (the first held hands up in defeat) and it feels like its turning into a saga where the car just "goes to another garage" at the first hiccup.

I've just spoken with the place i bought the car from and he's like "I'm going to call my friend who's pally with this place and see if I can get something sorted out". Maybe if that comes to nothing I request it does go to Newcastle :/

You're more patient than I would have been, and the specialist may be a genius but is being very unprofessional if not downright rude.

You need someone competent with AMDS who can say exactly what the problem is, and ideally fix it there.

(I stress competent because there's at least one place with AMDS that isn't)

This is an awful situation Jay thats been made worse by an indie that to now I thought had a great reputation. The problem here is also your location as many of the best Indie's are more in the south than the North. Nottingham AM are very good and I believe Newcastle also.

I know this suggestion is out of your area however, Ryz (Ryzard) is a great guy and will travel with AMDS as he carries out a lot of inspections on Aston's new and old. Maybe you can talk to him to get his advice and go from there.

Failing this, and not something you probably want to do, you can hand the car back as it's not fit for purpose but the longer this option is left the harder it will be

Many thanks to you both guys and thanks for that contact

Yup I feel like I'm at the mercy of things outside my control.

If I get no joy over the next week I'm going to ask it goes to Newcastle. My seller has just informed me that his pal has spoken with the manager there and we'll see if that triggers any progress

I'm certainly not going to be using them for any future work. I'm paying for them to carry out an oil service while it's there which is sticking in my throat a bit.

You know handing the car back did cross my mind but it's a great car and that is usually the response a hot headed Jay would give. I'm trying to be cool on this but it just feels like I am getting walked on

If it's not done yet, I'd cancel it. They don't seem to want your business so ask AM Newcastle to do it.

I been out walking and thinking and will give 1 week for progress to be made and asked the seller if this isn't met then I want it to go to Newcastle AM. I think I've been more than reasonable thus far in expecting a faulty car to be rectified

No, you reported a fault on day one of owning the car.

If push comes to shove just tell them it's nothing to do with the warranty, it is a fault that was present when you collected the car, and tell the dealer to pay.

The dealer sounds like they're playing ball, and helping to get it fixed.

But if that changes, and it goes pear shaped, come back on here to get advice. Or just contact CAB who'll guide you.
