Taxed my new car early before transfer What now?
Discussion
I messed up. I got a new car today and they gave me the documents with the new seller slip thing.
I went and taxed it at the post office using the new green slip but the seller didn't transfer the car online until a couple of hours later.
Checked online this evening and it said untaxed.
Guessing I need to pay road tax again?
This is all my own fault. Admittedly this is only the second car I have bought and the first one I bought had road tax included many many years ago.( On the old system)

That shouldn't make any difference when the transfer was done. If you tax using the new keeper slip ref no, NOT the V5c ref on the front, this is correct.
It is likely that the database has not updated yet. If the vehicle was 'untaxed,' I take it you bought it from a dealer and it was 'in trade.'

It's a used new car not a brand new car.
It says tax due today ( today's date)
I assumed when any seller transfer it's to a new owner it untaxes the car and the new owner has to tax it.
If I sold my old ford focus to someone and transferred it online it would then untax that car and they would need to tax it again.
Sorry I'm not great at explaining

You don't have to wait for the transfer to be carried out, after all it may be done by post, which is still permitted.
The only way to buy VED for a car you aren't yet the registered keeper for is with the new keeper slip, which you've done. If it has been taxed using the new keeper slip, changing the keeper does not make it untaxed. You failed to say if you bought from a trader. If the change of keeper was done online immediately, it would show as untaxed until the database updates overnight for VED status.

Hi everyone,
Thank you for all the replies. I waited till next day and it still said the car was untaxed. Waited till Friday morning and now it says the car is taxed
So for this instance it took 2 days for the post office to update the DVLA to the fact my car was taxed.
As others have said it would have probably been quicker if I did it online
(Wanted to make sure I came back and gave a proper update as it's annoying how many ppl ask questions and never come back and tell people what happened)
