With the arrival of a dedicated car for the missus and I have a company car which fulfils all our needs.
This means for the first time I can get anything I want. It doesn’t need to have 4 seats or be at all practical.
It will be a take to shows, do some trackdays and out for a blast days.
I have a budget of up to 25k. I really don’t need to use it all. It needs to hold its money as I do like to chop and change cars.
Good aftermarket support as I do love modifying cars.

Currently I'm looking at the following.

Honda s2000
Honda ek9 type r.
Bmw z4m coupe and convertible.
Lotus elise.
Mazda rx7 (not sure if in budget)

Not really into a porsche boxter and is a 996 special enough.
Any recommendations or something I’m missing.

Elise or VX220 were the first things to spring to mind and would be what I would be searching for if I were using the same criteria.

Happy shopping!

Another vote for an Elise or, somewhat at the other end of the spectrum, an R172 Merc SLK55 AMG.

I went Lotus Elise with a similar budget.

Perhaps consider a MX5 too. TVR Chimera and Griffin are around that money too I think.

Elise ticks all of your criteria handsomely, and as an added bonus won't be hard on consumables.

Caterham. Possibly too hardcore / narrow use case.

If you want it for track days then elise/vx220, Caterham. They won't lose value.

You wouldn't track an old tvr imo, too fragile.

S2000 could be had for half the budget but as an owner they just lack something extra for me, a masterpiece of an engine and gearbox though.
Wonderful cars to drive, you need to take care with rust and seized geometry bolts.
Would love to try a supercharged one.
I would maybe look at a VX220 Turbo, less loved but a cracking car.

Surely it has to be an Elise, plenty around in your budget in a range of specs. Have a good long test drive to check you’re ok with the ride and accessibility, etc. I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

Had an RX-7 for a decade.
- Stock, it isn't that raw - it was our only car for 7 of those years. So perhaps more of an all-rounder than you're looking for.
- Great handling balance, gets better the harder you push. Was v good on track.
- You need a good specialist to look after it, the only one I'd be confident in is RotorTorque in Rayleigh. There aren't many specialists and most of them aren't any good.
- Issues include rust and the complex, ageing sequential twin turbo system, although the engine itself isn't too fragile as long as any rebuild is done properly (see previous point).
- Parts supply is becoming an issue.
- You see FDs up for big money but they also change hands privately for less https://fdoc.co.uk/forum/forums/cars-for-sale.18/ . So not necessarily entirely out of budget.

Worth the effort though I think. Plus you'll get nothing but fun on the road or on a track for me.
