Rossi goes rallying
Discussion
Apparently, the boy wonder is planning a rally programme for 2006 in an Impreza WRC, beginning with the Monza Rally in November 2005. What with his monthly Ferrari tests next year (Brawn says he is, Rossi knows nothing), these activities won't leave him much time to undertake his Yamaha duties in MotoGP. And that's without touching on his desire to emulate Fast Freddie's feat of both 250 and big class titles in one season.
His ego knows no bounds. Should be perfect for F1.

Just because Brawn has said he'll be in a Ferrari month-in month-out, doesn't mean to say its true.
Methinks people are believing too much of what is being written to hype it up.
After all, I'm sure Marlboro and Vodafone are over the moon that Brawn keeps saying this, everytime a picture goes in the papers they're laughing...
Rossi has stated in interviews that he loves rallying. Only he'll know whether its too much to do a full campaign or not.
And he's won world title after world title and is head and shoulders above anyone else on the grid, why wouldn't he want to do something to keep his interest up?

As you suggest, the stories do have more than a whiff of p.r. stunt about them. Perhaps tellingly, I've not seen any reaction from Yamaha yet. Can't believe that it's normal for contracts to allow riders / drivers to go charging off into other sports whilst still employed -apart from the lack of focus on the job in hand, the risk of injury is significantly multiplied, especially for a novice seeking the limits. You've only got to look at Bayliss in MotoGP (missed several races through injury caused playing on an MX bike) and Montoya's infamous "tennis" injury. And these guys were even racing.
Perhaps WRC would be best for Rossi after all, at least there's little chance of him ramming his fellow competitors off the track in that sport.

Hi
If you read Mat Oxleys biography of him, he started out on four wheels. Racing carts with success. His dad (ex-250 GP rider himself) was reluctant to put him onto a bike because of the obvious dangers. They only switched to two wheels when getting competitive carts got too expensive.
By the way, he actually crashed his 206 just down the road from my aunties house in the Brechfa forest.
I'd love to see him in any kind of four wheel competition. He's already one of the all time greats on two wheels (up there with Ago, Surtees, Dohan, etc) and has nothing left to prove at the age of 26. If he made the switch he could easily stay in F1 for another 10 years, and even longer in rallying.
