I'm sure this sort of thing happens all the time across western Europe

There'll be loads of examples, probably

When is this utter madness going to end?
When people stop having wars and persecuting minorities.

Yes, as a white tax paying male, I’m certainly a persecuted minority

I have friends who work full time who are in their 30s/40s and are not having kids as they can’t get a suitable house / flat to accommodate them, so they are delaying and it’ll be too late

I genuinely feel sorry for them

They work, they do everything right but just can’t take the next step

They must come to tears when seeing this sort of stuff

I get that the houses are indeed probably cheaper than hotels

Why are we not using things like porta cabins, heating / water etc but just a basic comfortable shelter

Because we signed up to international law and norms, and benefit from those laws.
Because we should have humanity and care for fellow humans rather than leaving them to die.
Because most of the asylum seekers that come to the UK do so because to the historic links their home countries have to the UK, and those historic links are often why there are wars in these places after meddled, and made a lot of money, in those areas.

Surely in the long term a house, which gains value, is going to be better cost wise than a porta cabin, which looses value over time?

Why is it ok to put our own homeless people into them then?

I would like to see the people who make these decisions live in one of these houses to experience what it’s like living near social housing 5 years down the line

They were using cheaper, more efficient housing but folks protested that.

So we are where we are.

Dear me.

These actions generate a colossal inflow of people who jump over other people who would want to come to this country legally and can't. Many are refugees, who we should be charitable to, but not by severely harming ourselves.

When these things happen, and are reported, they highlight the clear and open disgust our government has for the native working class, as they create a recipe for societal malaise which inevitably ends in conflict and societal collapse.

It's Seppuku for a nation.

How are we benefiting from those laws which are clearly working to our detriment
We are and always have been the most accommodating people, there is a limit.
Utter bks
Are you one of those apologists for the British Empire spreading democracy, rule of law, infrastructure and industry to other parts of the world, ending slavery etc. ( yes I’m aware we also did some bad things)

What are we going to do to stop this incessant migration?
We can’t afford it.

A stable global economy and society based on the rule of law. Global trade rules. Maritime and aviation laws. Lots of international laws that are part of the package.

We are nowhere near the most accommodating country in Europe.

Are you one of the people that thinks we had no part in drawing arbitrary lines across parts of the world and overthrowing governments that didn t suit our needs at the time? (Yes, I m aware we did some good things, but those aren t what caused many of the conflicts we see today).

We made most of those laws.

You are beyond help and part of the problem.

This migration insanity has to stop.

I’m definitely not a right winger and despise £5million pounds Farage. Am anti Brexit and vote LD most of the time but this is so wrong.
Put these people in well insulated tents behind fences until it is proven beyond reasonable doubt they have no criminal record and pose no threat to others.
Feed them well. Give them basic medical care to keep them in the condition they arrive in. Very very basic dental care.
No alcohol or cigarettes.
Decent washing facilities in portacabins.

If they really are persecuted in their home countries that they have to cross continents then a well insulated tent with a real bed with 3 meals a day and luxuries provided by charities would be a massive upgrade from their home countries.
Finally review their situation en mass every year and if conditions have changed then they go home. No route to permanent leave to remain or citizenship ever.
