This is a big change.

Namely no two strikes and your car is seized, if say you are weaving, launch starts and car meet racing it can seizsd on the spot AND disposed of (i.e. sold/lost permanently within 48 hours) down from 14 days.

Now, officers can seize cars or bikes immediately if they are driven in a way that causes distress or annoyance.

The key to having a bit of fun is to do it when no one is looking, if you're the type to try and peacock in front of others and generally be a nuisance then you deserve all you get....

yea. I agree in law and punishment. But one other persons perception of annoyance to result in your vehicle seized and crushed with 48hrs...and that many commenting will have driven in a manner that could have landed them with a section 59..

I get annoyed by all sorts of drivers. Does this mean I can get them crushed now?

How have we got to a point where accelerating is punishable by crushing cars without legal process?

Can someone define “launching”? I will use full throttle getting up to speed entering a motorway. Is that “launching”?

What about tight gaps? One of my cars does 0-60 in about 2.5 seconds. That makes all tight gaps generous. Even if I use half throttle, am I “launching” as it will be 0-60 quicker than most cars.

How are they going to judge “launching”? My bet is an uncalibrated WPC in a van. One of my cars is a loud V8. When I put my foot down it roars into life. I bet that would be counted as “launching”. It certainly is for my mother. “Ooooh you’re going too fast!!!” Nope, I’m turning petrol into noise.

Littles changed, just the 1st warning and disposal period.
I or anyone I care about from a day to day basis have never received a section 59.

I do know many people who have. I understand the intention, electric motorbikes, joy riding etc.

But the people who think this is a good thing and hasn't widely been abused outside of the inner city 'yob' culture its touted to control, are really on the 10th percentile in critical thinking.

No. Every day we nudge towards people realising that track days are fabulous, and roads are boring, and the worst place to fk about.

The police have the power under section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 to seize vehicles, including off-road bikes, being driven illegally, or used in an anti-social manner. The seizure power does not depend on prosecution for, or proof of, this behaviour, only on reasonable belief by a constable as to it occurring. The power is designed to enable the police to put a stop to this dangerous and anti-social behaviour.

By amending the law, the police will be able to immediately seize vehicles being used in an anti-social manner, without the requirement to first issue a warning to the person that their vehicle will be seized if they continue to use it in an anti-social manner.
I'm not sure I'm comfortable with any Police constable having the power to seize my car based on their opinion. In fact, I'm not comfortable with that, at all. I'm not sure how anyone could be.

The problem with supporting the excesses of the state is that its fine until its you who the copper at that moment has taken a dislike to, ''i don't think you have mate'' or it wasn't me so i said nothing until one day its me.

Tailgating being one such thing, i don't do this but a hell of a lot of people do, not aggressively but that's how they drive, is that going to be enough for your car to disppear up the crushers behind, will it apply equally to Lord Fauntleroy in his Rolls as its does to Kev in his Corsa, will it be council who lose their car whilst others have the blind eye turned once again.
Will Kev be able to afford or be granted the legal aid representation of a top brief.
