One weekend in Auckland - end July...

As per title really, I'm in Auckland (then Sydney) for work - and have a free weekend...
I'll have been in country for a week, so jetlag won't be an issue (I've got a weekend when I arrive to adjust - 'gentle' ideas welcomed too!). No car (although would consider weekend rental).
On expenses, but 'activities' I need to fund myself, not a crazy budget, but it's rare to be on the other side of the planet...
Love the outdoors, food (lean towards high quality but simple, unfortunately a lot of Oriental food is out due to allergy), LoTR (but Mrs Sway might divorce me if I go to Hobbiton - is it worth it anyway?!), nature/wildlife and the marine environment (have kept marine sps coral aquariums).
Ideas please!
Much appreciated, have visited Hamilton once before (again for work) - NZ is the only place I've travelled for work I also brought myself back a souvenir, not just ones for the Mrs and kids. Adored everything about everything Kiwi - but didn't have any free time and was jetlagged to hell!
