A simple MK9 Honda Civic 1.6 D-tec will do the job just as well with better comfort, tech and safety

This is Portsmouth to Guildford through the hilly southdowns on the A3 at 60-65mph early morning.

Not as unique and "enthusiast choice" as the A2 but the pros outweigh the cons as far as I'm concerned.

Primarily that this is an odd choice of a thread and that coaxing any car to that MPG must be fking boring and a miserable way to get from A to B

Audi A2 is retro cool and made of aloominuum, a Civic diesel isn’t.

...but they also suffer from the infamous Audi electrical gremlins. Our A2 was the most unreliable car I've ever experienced

That’d be a poor mpg figure for my PHEV Audi A3.

Can’t fault that MPG. These Civics are reliable and good value.

Civic was 5k so like a Renault Zoe? Much smaller car, it will may not even make it to my work and back in the winter without stopping to charge. I live in terraced houses with no off road parking so would have to rely on the very rare public electric parking spaces. Not ideal at all.

My civic cost 5k to buy and will probably outlast your A3 :P

That's what the A2 was designed to do, that's the comparison.

Pistonheads. MPG matters

Probably more fitting discussion in "the joy of running an old shed" than anything else. Both the civic and a2 are now aging and getting rare (doesn't mean they're good!)

Nah, as a fellow Civic owner of that era, rust will get it sooner.

Because the A3m commute is boring anyway, as all motorway journeys are. Why not save a heap of dosh by leaving 10 mins earlier and having a safer, more relaxing journey with less tyre and wind noise?

Didn't you start a near identical thread yesterday?

The 1.6 dtec in the MK9 Civic is a mile munching masterpiece - Page 1 - Honda - PistonHeads UK https://share.google/0DZA3XVtRChW5s43p

Duplicate thread?

If I was to get an A2 it would have to be a low VED one but I've never owned a diesel and I quite like that.

It's more than my 650 motorcycle that was showing an average of 73mpg on Sunday.

Impressive MPG. Guessing an A2 might be better for shorter, slower speed journeys rather than a long consistent motorway-esque speed. But you did post the same thing yesterday BTW!
