As per the above two episodes and the expiration of the 10 year warranty on 991 GT3 engines, is this the end of Porsche just throwing new engines at the problem?

As I understand it, Americans have developed a system for inspecting for wear that's more involved than just sticking a camera in there that can be done once a year. Perhaps doing that with oil analysis at service to check for the coating coming off.

I also understand it seems to be the intake cam that wears out being on the top, Ian from Prepworks suggesting that a thicker oil than Porsche stipulate could also extend the life of the afflicted parts.

A £10k bill is never welcome but as it usually is with these things, repairs and workarounds usually get figured out and it's a better pill to swallow than a £45k new engine.

You can extend the warranty to 15 years though, some of the GT3s will start to drop out soon but little while longer for the RS yet.

Posted the above on the Matt Armstrong thread the other day, uncanny both have the same issue at similar miles.
