Hi all, just installed a nice (eventually) broadband router, so now Fer Jr. has access to the web. I am worried about him straying off into the darker corners of the internet (he is only 10), and ending up somewhere less savoury.

Any suggestions for software to help him avoid getting shanghied? I know that he would not do it deliberatly, but there are so many "Free iPod"/Screen Savers, etc, that I would like to save him from, and I do not want him to have someone watching him all the time.

TIA, Fer.

We use net nanny software and its dead easy to setup has a password on to stop people uninstalling it even if they have admin rights. There is a free (for personal use) net nanny type software that is available and I can dig you the weblink out for that if it any use.

I've never bothered with it myself but would be interested also.

what I'd like to know, though, is how does it decide which sites are suitable? Does it have a huge list of "unsuitable" sites, or does it make an arbitary decision based on keyword content?

Bit of both I think.

Which inevitably means constant updates

Gah. Was hoping that wouldn't be the case.

my advice would be to have his pc in a public room like the lounge or at the very least tell him you've installed logging software on his pc even if u havent so he doesnt go on dodgy sites. then make sure he is comfortable to come to you if he gets on sites he shouldnt and knows what to do rather than being scared of what you might say etc.

Thanks for the comments. The PC is under the stairs, just outside the door to the room, so we can see him. It is not so much him being dodgy, but worried that www.hotmaik.com (or what ever I mistyped) is too easy to catch, and that a "free ipod" might sound like a really good idea to a 10 year old.

If my Netg**r kit ever stops crashing the PC we will be laughing!
