Wondering if this has massively hiked across the board, renewal came through this month at over 400 quid vs under 300 last year. The cheapest comparison sites can offer is over 600 quid.

I’ve never been near this pricey for home insurance, what the hell is going on?

Mine went from £300 to £600 last year after an £8k claim. The proposed renewal was £720 but I went on the comparison websites and managed to get coverage for £450.

In short, worth shopping around

Mine went up by about £40. Maybe there has been an excess of claims in your area in the last year.

Mine up about £200-300 even after looking around, now north of £1000. I think the insurance industry is catching up with the high cost of repair works.

Mine went up £105 this year but I did add two bicycles with values over the basic limit of £500 (£1K and £2k) so that explained that one. My renewal was cheaper than anything on the comparison sites too by around £50 which was a nice surprise.

Read an article about increased claims\payouts due to dodgy e-scooters, ebikes and ecars catching fires in garages, adjacent sheds, landings etc.

Got a link?

Recent data from the Association of British Insurers shows that weather damage (storms, floods and subsidence) has been the biggest reason for record home insurance payouts in recent years.
