Iron Maiden - appreciation for 50 years of Metal legends
Discussion
Saw the band for their 50 year celebration gig "Eddfest" at Knebworth this weekend - I have been a fan since my teens, and myself hit 50 years old this year - so I've grown up with them and they have a special place in my heart - but I have to say, what an absolute stellar career they have had.
Thank you Maiden for creating a whole "mythology", performing with real artistic flair, and of course, fantastic songs!
They were absolutely on fire at Knebworth - playing with aggression, energy and boundless joy. "The Number of the Beast", "Powerslave", "2 Minutes to Midnight", "Rime of the Ancient Mariner", "Run to the Hills", "The Trooper", "Hallowed Be Thy Name", "Iron Maiden", "Aces High", "Fear of the Dark", "Wasted Years" - (to name but a few), all of them hit hard, with real musicianship and panache.
Long may the band continue.
Up the Irons!

saw them many times when they were big incl a couple of times they played the monsters of rock at Donnington
The greatest concert i ever went to was by luck, somehow the night we had purchased tickets for the somewhere in time tour was the NSPCC charity event opened by Bad News (I also watched them at the MoR)
I can still remember Rik saying "bloody hell you cant get any decent help for a tenner" when Brian May walked out on stage playing his parts
I still have the signed SiT album Maiden had put under my seat (and a few others at random) my mates were so pissed off lol
On November 9, 1986, Iron Maiden played a legendary NSPCC charity concert at London's Hammersmith Odeon. The spoof comedy band Bad News opened the show, featuring special guest guitarists Jimmy Page and Brian May. Iron Maiden s set also featured a surprise guest appearance by Ian Gillan. Here are the details of the iconic event:Date & Venue: November 9, 1986, at the Hammersmith Odeon, London. The Support Act: The show was opened by Bad News, a fictional English heavy metal band created for the British comedy TV series The Comic Strip Presents.... The band starred comedians Adrian Edmonson, Nigel Planer, Rik Mayall, and Peter Richardson.Star-Studded Guitar Duel: During the Bad News set, Queen guitarist Brian May and Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page joined the band on stage. The three guitarists engaged in an epic, comedic guitar duel with Bad News frontman Vim Fuego (Adrian Edmonson).Ian Gillan Appearance: Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan was in attendance and joined Iron Maiden on stage during their headline set to sing "Smoke on the Water".

Saw them at Knebworth and thought they were phenomenal. Some underused, unepxected songs, and some terrific playing. Bruce has still got it, and the classic line up, drummer excepted, was as I'd hoped. I saw them in 2014 at London O2, but this was better.
The only thing I say that is even vaguely negative is that I thought the sound of the drums was piss-poor, but I then realised he's using DW drums and they rarely sound any good. Otherwise, absolutely top notch!

Great show, maybe one or two too many too long instrumental costume change bits when crowd stood still. Had a great view and reasonably close, just over 20m away from front. Crowd a bit quiet at end as encores now expected and also was mentioned on the screen. Didn't see any stripey leggings in the museum either.
Hard to beat the energy of Maiden and the crowds and being at or near the front in 1980 to 1984 when I saw them about 8 times. First at Chatham Central Hall on Iron Maiden album tour. Two gigs at the Rainbow standing at front were great (think 2nd one was Bruce's first big London/UK Maiden gig) as was front row seat for Hammersmith March 1982 when they filmed also. Two consecutive nights in May 1983 £4.50 each night in front 6 rows.
Did see a lot of bands when at college in London, mostly in front few rows and interest dropped off when moved away and great seats harder to come by.

The whole Knebworth show was amazing and i still remember going to see Iron Maiden on the Number of the Beast tour back in the day when Clive Burr was still their drummer and i was still young.
Saw them at Donington too.
All round good show by the boys and Simon Dawson is a worthy replacement for Nicko touring wise.

I was persuaded by my son to go there solo at last minute as he couldn't get there with me, but are you ever solo at a gig with likeminded people?
Thank you for years of music and an amazing day

Saw them at Download either 23 or 24. It shouldn't work, but it really does.

The WU meanwhile, absolutely nailed it, what a fabulous set, who'd have thought mongolian folk-metal was a thing?
