York - decent restaurants
Discussion
Heading to York for a night soon for my wifes 50th. Got a great hotel (The Grand) but looking for a really nice restaurant (French, traditional British) thats open on a Sunday night. Ideally A-la Carte , so no tasting menus but prefer mid to high end and walkable form the hotel.
It's a long long time since I've stayed there so I don't know whats good and what isn't - any recommendations?

We've eaten in both on more than one occasion.

Go for afternoon tea instead at Bettys.
Betty's is more a tourist thing IMHO than anything really specialI think it's rather like The Magpie Cafe in Whitby; nothing special, but equally, there's nothing wrong with it either. Again, people queue down the street.
We've eaten here a couple of times. Lovely location, and it is more a very good brasserie rather than high end eating, but the food is very good indeed...

Shame about Roots. We went to La Rustique on a Sunday night a few weeks ago and enjoyed it.
