130i LE Journey
Discussion
Having never owned a BMW until about 12 months ago, and to be honest never really understood the pull towards these cars, I now find myself as a double BMW owner having purchased a lovely 130i LE a couple of weeks ago!
This 130i has been looked after exceptionally well by the previous owners (with a nice detailed thread by danb79). It has had a lot of maintenance and nice upgrades along the way. Very pleased to be buying a car that has been owned and cared for by fellow enthusiasts.
My plans for this car will be to use it as weekend/track car. With a few planned on the horizon it needs a few little jobs to get it track ready. I will aim to keep this thread up to date and continue documenting the impressive life this car has already had!

Looks familiar

I've been a quiet here since buying the car but I've been busy with it!
The first job in my head when buying the car was water pump and thermostat, not knowing when the last one was done and with the desire to take this car on track it was the right starting point.
Got a new Pierburg pump and Mahle Thermostat and started taking the old bits off. Noticed a lot of old oil residue on the parts and surrounding hoses. Looks like it was from an old oil leak, rather than anything active, looked like rocker cover related which had previously been swapped! The surrounding hoses did unfortunately looked a bit swelled so I stopped to order some replacements, thought it was worth doing at this point.
Got all the bits back together and bled the system, nice and easily done on these cars, first job on the LE was done!

Next up was some brakeline/hose work.
I swapped out the rear brakelines aa they were looking a bit tired with some new shiny ones. Replaced the mounting spring brackets too.
Also tidied up the front brake hoses with some OEM grommets.
The car already had a full set of braided lines which was nice!
With trackdays in mind I also changed the oil to Millers 5W40 CFS NT+. The car was closer to hitting the track!

A fullset of Protrack ones was also purchased for track use (8J ET45s all round). Unfortunately, they don't make them in anthracite grey anymore (grey set on the car already) so went for matte black.
Continental Sport Contact 7s went on these wheels. Thought it was best to start on some road tyres to understand how the car behaves before going down the semi slick route.

Thanks Dan!
I think an LSD first, then I can think about more power
That I can understand; I looked inti the MFactory LSD as my pals here in Preston that have Grinspeed are dealers; but it’s an easy £2k from what I remember (but that was with the idea of buying a spare diff and getting that overhauled, and then it’d just be a simple swap over etc)I think an LSD first, then I can think about more power
