Anyone experienced cracked heat shields on a 993 or 996 Turbo ?

Just gave my car a major service @ 54K miles = £650+ VAT + £100 of sundries. However I’ll hold off fixing the heat shields for the Turbos. Both are cracked and rattle a bit which is irritating but not critical as they’re still doing their job fine.

Same was picked up on my car. I don't even notice them and the OPC guy advised me not to bother for now.

cyrus - major service cost seems low - was that at an independant ? I just paid over £1k for a major service - which actually included sorting out my cracked heat shield.
As far as I know its a fairly common thing on 996 TT's, the bolts holding the shield often corrode making it difficult to get them off.
If you can live with the rattle then no reason to get it changed immediately.

Yes it was a specialist as my car is off warrantee and AFN in Chiswick generally depress and don’t impress me. £650 service + £100 sundries plus VAT = £885. The good news was disks and pads are all OK – otherwise would have been far more !
