M340i rear diff leak / other issues to know for new buyer

Hi All

Having sold a Boxster and with a 4 series on the drive ready to trade in I’ve got my heart set on an M340i Touring.

I’ve found one that is the perfect spec and colour but looking at the MOT there is mention of small oil leak on the rear differential. This made me Google a bit and I discovered this seems quite common.

What I didn’t confirm was how common this is and a definitive fix and idea of costs.

Any ideas and while I’ve got you, what else should I be looking out for on these please.

I had a leaky rear diff on my 535d for about 6 years, got topped up when serviced. My specialist only swapped the seal when it required a near side drive shaft. Speak to who looks after your car, its not a big job.
