944 s2 oil pressure

Hi all went on test drive 944 s2 and oil pressure was at full ie 5 on the meter throughout the test drive and only dropped to 4 when we stopped - is this normal or a sign the head gaskett has gone?

Not normal, 4.5 bar when running up to 5 when cold or running hard, around 3 when at idle when warm, slightly lower on thinner oil. It could have totally the wrong oil in.

hi, the oil was pretty clear on the dipstick - does the oil stay quite clear on these engines as otherwise thick oil could have been put in the mask engine wear??

My S2 oil stays pretty clear for a few thousand miles after an oil change (engine at 164k miles).

With the engine warm you should read between 4-5bar whilst driving and 3-4bar when idling. These figures will all be a little higher when the engine is cold and a little higher when red hot after a serious caning round the track for 20 mins

It could well be a problem with the guage or sendor unit.
