Growing help required!

My daughter loves strawberries, so I decided to grow some in the garden for her (and also to keep me entertained for a while). The plants are healthy and I am getting a reasonable harvest every 2-3 days, but sadly they all taste sour! Really disappointed as I thought home grown would taste better!

All potted in a long rectangle tray and kept in a stand.
Watered daily in the late afternoon/evening.
Feed once a week with tomato feed.
Located at a sunny spot (until 2pm when the sun goes round) of the garden.
Mix of Roman, Toscana, Elan and Loran strawberry plants.

Is there anything I am missing which can help to improve the taste before I resort back to buying supermarket strawberries? smile

Just sprinkle them with a bit of sugar and try again next year.

Or soak them in a little Kirsch first - it works wonders. And then add sugar.

Did you clean your teeth in the hour before? The residue of peppermint toothpaste makes strawberries taste disgusting!

NB When a strawberry is fully ripe the green bit should stay on the bush.

Water every other day, they can grow in the crappiest, dry, soil conditions - I think you're spoiling them smile

I do this, and only pick them when they are intense deep red in colour with a little give when I squeeze them.
They are juicy, but just sour and this apply across all the different varieties which is the annoying thing!

Strawberries are slightly 'tart'.

Remember the good old days of pick you own?

One in the basket, 3 eaten unwashed off the plant.

The crap you buy in supermarkets are coated in sweeteners.

I've tried to wash it off with soap, but its bound to the surface like st to a blanket, along with a vast array of toxic insecticides.

Come the revolution, after the commies, the food industry kents are going up against the wall.
