Proton drive - anybody use it? Or alternatives?

I currently use Google drive - and even started paying for the 100GB option recently. It's primarily used for photo backup - although I don't take so many - and Google sheets.

I have been playing with Proton drive recently - because I don't really like the fact that Google scans everything I upload there for targeted advertising etc. - but it seems a bit disappointing:

- The Android app doesn't let you create sheets - you have to do that via the web
- The Proton sheets support is rubbish. If I import my cells to it, all of the formulas are screwed up (completely wrong cell references)
- There is no sync feature (I think there is on Windows, but not Android). You can apparently use S3Drive but having looked into it, it seems it would take a fair bit of setting up
- It's not supported by any apps - e.g. FolderSync. If it was, I could change my spreadsheets to Excel and sync those.

Does anybody else use it - with more positive results?

Or has a better alternative? I know about Mega - and that does integrate with things like FolderSync - but it gets pretty negative reviews (poor encryption and suggestions that it's Chinese owned and your private data may not be that private)

For a photo backup I use Jottacloud

I pay for the family account - It backs up photo from my iPhone which is a bonus. It doesn't back up from a NAS but I just mount the share and backup through the app.

Thanks, I'll take a look.

I've looked into it more since posting, and I think maybe PCloud might be what I want. Monthly subscriptions for 500GB is only 50p more than Proton was for 200GB - the catch is, you don't get E2E unless you pay another £4.49 a month............
But, they do have lifetime plans - and, it does work with folder sync. So I may well try using that for a bit and if I like it, perhaps pay for lifetime.

ETA: Maybe not - it seems that if you get encryption, the encrypted folder can't be sync'd.

OK, I've realised that I don't need sync'ing as much as I thought.

The main reason I wanted it was because of spreadsheets that I update often - and of course with Google, they're available to all of my Android devices. But I don't need them sync'd to the cloud - I can simply sync them to my NAS / devices (which I already do with other files).

That leaves other documents that I'd like cloud backup for - but they are not live, and hence a manual copy is fine.

And photos - which will sync automatically with Proton anyway.

So, I will pay for sufficient storage on Proton and start using that. My spreadsheets will become Excel, and sync across my devices directly.
Google drive will gradually become empty, and I'll cancel my subscription.
