Hello,

Newbie to the BMW forum here.

I have a '53 X5 with the Comms pack. I am having no luck getting my Samsung D500 to pair AT ALL with it. Information on t'internet suggests that "they all do that" - i.e. it's a problem with the Bluetooth standard (or lack there of). I also had an email from BMW saying that my wifes old T610 should work - but that didn't either (her new Samsung E270 doesn't either).

I just wondered whether anyone had resolved any issues with phone pairing, or have a phone model that works perfectly well (so I could buy one). Has anyone had an upgrade? How much did it cost? Does it sound like mine doesn't work? It was factory fitted AFAIK and therefore would be a 2003 "model".

Also, I wanted to find out what type of SatNav I have (I believe that there is 3 types? Business, Professional, High?)... The unit says "DVD SatNav" but gives no further information. Any help? Also, does anyone know where I can get updated DVD's from?

I hope the questions make sense!

Cheers,
Phil

Phil, I'm not sure about the Samsung but the SE T610 definitely works with the BMW bluetooth system in the X5. If it doesn't, then you probably need a new bluetooth module (under warranty), it's a common problem and your dealer 'should' know about it. I have a June 2005 X5 and before that I had a June 2004 and both worked flawlessley with my T610 (pairing each time without a glitch) although my first car needed a replacement bluetooth module.

Radio wise, I seem to remember it's the BMW Professional that comes with the Sat Nav system, just check on the bmw.co.uk website and use the new car configurator to spec a car, it will soon show you what radio system is fitted. You can get updated DVDs from your BMW dealer, although I haven't needed to do so yet. With the older CD based Sat Nav system I remember buying a new disk directly from VDO Dayton's on-line shop.

Thanks Mustard - I had seen that before but it only quotes systems "post 2004". I emailed BMW and they gave me the possible 2003 list (including the T610) and said that they were going to change the site based on my email (oooOO! get me!). Thanks though.

Thank you DoctorD, may I ask when you say "under warranty" do you mean as in there's something wrong (possibly) with mine and therefore I should be able to say "fix it" - rather than it being a case of it was never quite right so I deserve a new one (the purpose of the question is that I know BMW wold riggle out of the second option!)

Did you have to pay for the replacement Bluetooth module? or was that a warranty repair (as above)?

Thanks for the new car spec option - hadn't thought of that.

Cheers both,
Phil.

I've a 120 with bluetooth.

My old Ericsson T68 didn't pair wholly successfully. However the K700 does work fully and the K750 I got last night seems to work so far.

there are two types of bmw sat nav, business or professional, if you have a map displayed then you have professional, you may also have a tv function, or you can upgrade to get tv function.

if your car is a used example it might be an ex staff car, in which case it will defo have tv function.

Hi

It has the map function - so I assume it's Professional. It does also have TV. Wasn't a staff car though - I did ask!

Cheers for the info.

Hi,

I have a Samsung D500 which works with my '53 Bluetooth Professional. It does not have the full fuctionality that any of my previous Motorola's had but it does work even with the BMW voice recognition system.

If the Bluetooth of the phone is working, then the car is at fault.

I know this might be a stupid question, but you car does have the bluetooth system?

One of my close friends has just brought an X5 with the Professional SatNav with TV functions but it does not have the bluetooth system installed!

Best of luck

Hi Kev,

Yep, the car does have Bluetooth!

What basically happens is the car says "Bluetooth Pairing" and then it connects with the phone, says "Connection Successful" or something, and then INSTANTLY disconnects. Ad infinitum.

I heard that there was problems with Samsung phones so assumed it was that. But, it now does look like the Bluetooth isn't working doesn't it.

Thanks for the information/reply!

Cheers,
Phil.

It will be Professional as that is the only one available on X5's, the TV bit is the option.

Phil, that is how they pair. conect then disconect, just turn the ignition off and then switch it back on and after a few seconds your phone should 'pair'.

The nokia 6310 is the best phone to have with the system you have but they are a bit old now but if you are on the Vodaphone network?? get a duplicate sim card get a 6310 and a cradle and leave it in the armrest....jobs a good'un.

Also if your still having problems, switch the phone off remove the sim and then put the phone back together, this will reset your phone, then goto the X5 and start it up...
push the rear electric window button on the door below the window switches so that the green light is on...switch off the engine and get out and lock it. wait until the green light has gone out that means the car has past the sleep mode and I'm led to belive clear the cars memory/confussion and then pair up again. Don't forget to put your finger on the little speaker button at the top of the bluetooth holder in the armrest before you turn the ignition to position 2 and keep it pressed for a few seconds...

Or you anywhere near Worcester?

That's what I was thinking of doing (though I'm with O2)

Sadly not - Hertfordshire.

Many thanks for the information however. I'll let you know how I get on!

Cheers.
