Porsche GB - In need of used cars
Discussion
Yesterday I got a call from Porsche GB. I was dropping off my car today at OPC East London. The ask on the call was whether:
1. Do I want to sell my car - 991.1 C2S - 20K on the clock - still in warranty
2. If I did not want to sell am I interested in an upgrade.
This says 2 things to me - Porsche are not selling new cars (not exactly hard to fantom given the economy) - secondly Porsche are expanding their portfolio on the used market due to the drop in sales on the new market.
Anyone with more knowledge about this would be helpful.

1 and 2 are not mutually exclusive 1. Do I want to sell my car - 991.1 C2S - 20K on the clock - still in warranty

They often use the "we are keen to buy your car" approach to get buyers on the hook. Had it twice over the years from Dick Lovett.
But you could be right re market pressures changing tactics.
Edited to add: and I ended up buying a newer car the first time. Can resist anything but temptation - and they knew it

Don’t think this is anything new. I’ve had similar calls/emails for years.
Also, don’t read “Do you want to sell your car?” as “We’re desperate for stock and will give you a great price”. I’ve enquired a couple of times when I received these “We desperately want your car” contacts from OPCs. The prices they offered were an embarrassment.
As mentioned above, it’s just a tactic to get you talking to them.

The difference between what Porsche offered me for my 992 GTS and what WBAC paid me was £7300. The WBAC price has steadily risen over the last six months so is probably a good indication that demand for used cars is high. You’d have to be mad to sell directly to Porsche, though - lowballing chancers.
Admittedly it was 7 months ago but a mate wanted to trade his low mileage 3yr old Macan S against an ex-demo 911. Despite the OPC telling him they were desperate for used stock, and his Macan was exactly the type of thing they were looking for, they offered £4.5K less than WBAC and Motorway and wouldn’t budge.
1) Sales tactic used to get you thinking about a new car when you a) don't need a new one and b) wasn't even seriously thinking about getting a new one.
And 2) Why get one commission / bid-ask spread from a customer when you can get two spreads?
I mean, fair play to the dealer. But whenever I get these emails they go straight into the garbage.

The lowest offer I got when selling my 991.2 was from where I bought it - an OPC.
Best price was from Motorway. When I contacted them the actual price they suggested selling it at was 10% less than the initial price quoted on their website. This was nothing to do with the specifics of the car. A friend recently had a similar experience.

Thanks all for the feedback. The irony is OPC gave me the best deal for my SL63 - about 6K over what anyone else was offering - when I traded in. That was in 2023.Best price was from Motorway. I get this call literally every time my cars booked in, I don’t think it’s anything new or market specific. 1. Do I want to sell my car - 991.1 C2S - 20K on the clock - still in warranty

A guy at work has just bought a used Macan GTS and was going to trade his Audi TT in against it but it would have left him a couple of grand negative equity so he sold it on Motorway and got £5k more than Porsche were offering him. I did say that it probably wouldn't be something they'd put on their forecourt so offered bottom book price.

It seems a risky business strategy to push people and cars out of the network. From a sales perspective you'd normally want to be in control of the whole process.Sheepshanks said:

Well I assume they end up buying them back from auction at a far higher price than they offered me. Had they not utterly taken the piss with their offer I probably wouldn’t have even checked WBAC’s offer! I’ll still buy another Porsche and I found the dealers to be ok, but perhaps they just rely on less savvy people just PXing against a new car.

I am not criticising your deal. If it worked for you and the dealer then great. But I do point out that this is an example as two transactions presented as one.Gassing Station | 911/Carrera GT | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
