Had a fantastic trip to Crewe today including meeting this guy, Darren Day, who was responsible for the design of the interior of my GTC, it was fascinating as he told me about what the inspiration was behind it etc. Lovely guy, really appreciated him taking the time to stop and talk to me.

Pictures are a bit jumbled up and I'm no photographer, I also didn't take very many but got a few videos of the lineup. We all lined up in chronological order which was amazing to see.

Videos should be working if they've uploaded to YouTube properly.

Great photos and video, was this a Bentley Drivers Club event?

Yes, and really well organised, it was part of their 90th anniversary celebrations.

I'm off to a Concours event tomorrow, also in Crewe, not sure what to expect but looking forward to it as long as the weather holds up.

(Beaulieu next week, Bicester the week after, busy few weeks).

Another day of Bentley, this time at Rookery Hall for their 90th celebratory concours event.

Biggest surprise was the judges coming over to speak to me about my car, I hadn't entered anything but then they came back with this...

Nice end to a nice weekend!

Looks like another good day and some great photos there, congratulations on the rosette!

I've been tempted to join the BDC but there never seems to be any events up North or at least I never hear of any, you may have to be a member to find out.

You’re right, this one was only in the north because it happens to be where Crewe is.

I’ve not seen many other things going on, the forum is dead on the website so aside from the odd email I’m not sure how you’d find out.

In all honesty, the club could do with dragging into the 21st century. Honest appraisal.

Seems just as bad in Scotland - everything seems to be in the Edinburgh area, 3 hours from me

Interesting appraisal from a member, the forum is has a lot of public viewable areas which seemed pretty dead and very vintage focused.

But looking at a few of the video's there a decent amount of cars from the last 20 years and not just the vintage ones?

Lots of car 'conventional' car clubs seem to be the same way.

The old folk are still on printed media, and the young folk baulk at £100 a year for a fairly dry magazine when o line social media is free.

I don't think it's the print media or the hundred odd pounds in this case. Although the average Bentley owner is coming down, it's still not by its general cost to acquire and maintain an entry level marque so an older audience is expected.

If the content and quality is there it can work. Seeing a more varied cars in this post for an event run by the club may have done more to join than anything on their website...

The other part of it is the pomp of putting on a black tie and attending the events (as a 40 year old who is just interested in the cars, not the 60+ year old guys and their wives who look down their noses) as without the events you don't know anyone when you turn up.

Compare that to Bicester last month where you get talking to people who turn out to be from the forum.

Wandering around looking at the cars at the Bentley event was great, didn't speak to many people aside from that apart from a couple of people who muttered hello and carried on walking.

The dinner dance and foxtrotting into the evening on the events page did seem to appeal to a certain group. It’s probably why I didn’t join 15 years ago when I was in my 30’s, I’d look like the help at an event, even now I’d probably look young, well maybe not that young…

If anything that’s where the forums came in handy, it allows folks to connect before and then when they see the car and the person they are more likely to interact. I heard that white GT or its twin car start up in the workshop and it sounded glorious.

Yeah, your average 20-30 yo (or even 40yo) doesn't know what a "Gala Dinner" is nor particularly feels inclined to attend one.

There was a time when simply collecting and circulating a list of names and addresses of like minded people was a valuable service, a few events and the odd article on how to rebuild a steering box and the membership feel is a no brainer.

Obviously any second car is a luxury item, and a Bentley will always command an amount of premium, so its unlikely to be flush with 19yo owners especially in a cost of living crisis.

But there are people in the 24-45 bracket who can afford a second car and a space for a club, forum, facebook group to pull likely minded folk together.
