Could somebody give me a little guidance and how this would work.
Car A is on my driveway that I want to swap for car B which we will be meeting half way, car B is taxed and previous owner will cancel tax after we get back from the swap. Temp insurance will be used.
Car A has no insurance or tax. Insurance as said I will just use temp cover. Do I just tax the car as normal and then cancel once I am home, shame to lose 35 quid just for a 40 minute drive.

You might be able to tax car A on a monthly direct debit, then cancel the direct debit before the first payment is actually taken.
Is car A £35 a month or a year? If you tax monthly you'd only lose at most one month's tax.
Direct debit is a good shout. Yes it’s £35 a month. If I have to pay a months tax for a 40 minute drive then so be it I guess. Is car A £35 a month or a year? If you tax monthly you'd only lose at most one month's tax.

Taxed one on Dd last week, they used to take two payments when first taxing, one a week or so after taxing, the other first, second or third of the following month.
Seems that is one payment now, probably to stop this.
You were over thinking this. DVLA only cancel the VED when they are made aware of a change of keeper. Just do that after you both get home. Whatever you do, you will lose a month doing it on this date.
DVLA don't do an insurance check any more when you buy VED. But if it isn't, you'll get a red letter after a couple of weeks advising you to insure it or make it SORN.

I have just taxed it and the first direct debit wasn t coming out until the 10th so will just cancel when I m home, cheers.
Don't do this, I promise, you will regret it.You are not paying for VED on a monthly basis when you do this, you are paying for a full year's VED in installments.

^^^^ Wot 'e said. It's not difficult, so why make it so?
So car A is changing keepers? Just give the new owner the new owner slip number, then the nee owner can tax it before you set off. Then send the V5 with new keeper details or do via the online portal when you get home. If it's all done on the same day it's just splitting hairs to worry about which hour in the day as the date is needed not the time.

OK, I didn't mention car A specifically, but that is what I meant when I agreed with the previous post saying do it when you get home.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
