hi all,

after a few months of new ownership i'm still totally in love the car with the car but have a few questions please.

my car normally ticks over at 700rpm spot on which i was told was correct by the dealership.

when the car is totally cold and has been left for a while say upto a week it wont tickover and the revs falls and then it stalls. This has only happened once or twice and i usually get an EFI warning code. When i then re-start i keep my foot lightly on the gas upto about 1000rpm for a minute or so then remove and it then sticks at 700rpm.

1. is 700rpm correct?
2. is this stalling "normal" for a tvr is normal is the right word?

thanks

rick

What you describe is pretty well identical to mine.
Has always been like that since new 3 years ago.

I think most are very similar.

it sounds like it is getting wet/damp mine does this if its been raining and left out, or when washed and too much waters got in the top of the bonnet.

700/800 when cold. Rough idle could be damp or the HT leads breaking down causing the stall. Do you have a missfire or lumpy accelleration? Maybe a valve is closing up.. Get it to the dealer and get them to check it. It could be anything fella. Good Luck

Mine ticks over at 700 - 800 except in warm weather when I put the AC on. It then drops to 600/650 & is prone to stall.

This has happened ongoing through my last 6 mths of ownership and has been aided by throttle body adjustment by the dealer. In addition, several dealerships have recommended a very slight press on the accelerator - at start up - for 10-15 seconds to allow the engine to "catch" at 700-800 revs; not excessive, but also I think recommended by John Ravenscroft some years back.

Would not be unduly worried at this level of rpms - this is usually the level mine runs at immediatly after a service.

I have the same problems with mine, on hot days air conditioning can make it tickover lower than it should causing stalling, damn these cars are finicky.

If your hot idle drops below 700rpm with or without aircon on then it needs adjusted. Worst case scenario is the valve clearances are closing up and need adjusted.
