Following a review of medical staffing levels and professional advice from clinical leaders, the Royal Devon University Healthcare Foundation Trust Board has been advised that beyond Tuesday 11 August 2026 there will be insufficient substantive consultant and medical cover to safely maintain births at North Devon District Hospital.

This came as a bit of a shock. Is anyone aware of this happening in any other parts of the Country?

Despite living near Exeter, I've had a few respiratory and cardiac appointments at North Devon Hospital in recent months as they have far more capacity than the RD&E. Could be an issue with recruitment and staffing levels in that department as the two departments I mentioned were very efficient and well staffed.
