An uncle of mine used to be a riveter, working on lighters. During the war his job included going out to fix ships damaged in convoys so they'd be safe to enter Liverpool docks - and then taken out to be sunk in the Irish sea. Little consideration for job satisfaction during the war. He was built like the proverbial. His biceps were almost the same diameter as my thighs, and I cycled 240 miles a week offroad.

When he retired, he became a hospital porter and, being a gentle soul, his patients all took to him. He was the perfect uncle for a teenaged nephew. Highly moral but always laughing.

One night, coming away from the hospital, he was attacked by two teenagers. Rough area of London. What were they thinking? He was a little over 70, but 6'2" and still muscled. One threatened him with a knife, 'So I hit him,' he said. He fractured a knuckle, but the mugger was worse. The other ran off. He walked back to the hospital and went out with the ambulance. He was sitting in A&E opposite the bloke who'd tried to mug him, my uncle with a broken knuckle, the lad with a fractured cheekbone and still unconscious when the ambulance got there. My uncle was seen first of course.

He was appalled by what he'd done, and didn't tell the police. He went to work the next day with a fractured knuckle!

Stand back Superman, Iceman, Spiderman,
Batman and Robin too
Don't wanna cause a ruckus with B.A. Baracus,
But I've got a match for you
She makes them look like a bunch of fairies,
She's got more bottle than United Dairies
Hang about, look out, for Super Gran!

You can stick your heroes, your Robert De Niros,
Your Al Pacino too
And big Stallone, he's just another phoney,
He couldn't lace her shoes
After her they're all big girls' blouses,
She's got more front than a row of houses
Hang about, look out, for Super Gran!

She's a serious granny, a serious granny
She'll do the things that you never saw your granny do
Is there nothing that she cannae do?
Hang about, look out, for Super Gran!

Ten years ago apparently.
I hope Ms Peel is still with us and just as feisty.

Why news now, twelve years after the event?

Has she passed away?

I am not the OP but I am really glad you asked that.
The OP may well have a different answer but I thin what frequently happens on these "local" newspapers is that they offer up articles based on what you may be looking at.
It happens all the time with Johnson Press sites. So much so that I was surprised to see this wasnt a Johnson Press title

OK I am looking at the Blackpool Gazette I see a news article about something that happened on Victoria Street a man was attacked by 2 bulgarian female weightlifters .
I read the article as I progress down the riveting piece of journalism I see something like Car blew up on Victoria street. I click on that NOT noticing that the article is 6 or so years old.
Stuff like this pops up all the time.

In this case it brought to the OP's and ours attention a story about Mrs Peel a woman who stood her ground. A true avenger you may feel but a woman whose type is needed

Are we sure Winifred Peel's first name isn't Emma?

Well done lady!
Were the miscreants sent back to Romania, never to re enter the U.K. again following their sentence completion?

It's been doing the rounds on social media for a few months now. Probably mainly to stoke up racial tensions or whatever, but fair play to the old lady for duffing the scrotes up whatever their skin colour lol!!

I've seen Tweets about it dated this month.

I think I've heard BBC Radio News mention it in the last week too.
