Went to see it. Good story. Not much of a film buff but here goes:

Not too impressed with what they had done to it. No singing for a start.

Mr Kingsley majestic as usual. Some crap child acting from the Tommy Steele/Bonnie Langford school of cheese. Sykes was about as scarey as Mrs Miggins with a hot mug of cocoa. Bullseye was a pussy with no real part in the story.

Lots of un necessary scenes (old lady gives him soup, boy falls out of bed, Sykes turns back to London), but then it leapt about like without much of a link to the next scene as though it didn't have the time.

Two completely crap scenes involving a girl at a door and a kid eating cake and a boy with a hoop, turned out they were Polanskis kids..bit indulgent there old boy Roman.

Overall, see it for Kingsley and rent the DVD of the singing version.

Someone said that Harry Seacombe was more menacing as The Beagle. They also said that Nancy's murder was scaier in the musical.

You really can't get any better than Ron Moody & Oliver Reed.

Oi. c'mere Bullseye.

I took part in a stage production of "Oliver" a few years back. I was Mr Percy Snodgrass (who used to take the odd glass - as sung by Nancy in "Oom Pah Pah".

Did you know that Lionel Bart couldn't read music?

I was one of only 4 in the cinema. I was tempted to so a sing a long version at key points to liven it up, although I havwe to say they did 18th/19th Century London very well, right the way down to the flemish jointing in the brick work
