The great maggot mystery
Discussion
At 2.50am my cat woke me demanding food - not unusual. When I went down to the kitchen I noticed something scattered across the floor, probably cat litter as she has a habit of kicking a bit out. I looked closer and to my slight horror it was about 30 white maggots, about 10mm long, all wriggling furiously across the room from right to left. I got the vacuum cleaner out and hoovered up every single one. I couldn't work out where they'd come from; it was as if they'd just been dropped on the floor. The food in the cat's bowl was fresh and hadn't been out long enough for any eggs to hatch or for maggots to grow that big.
I went round all the edges of the room with the vacuum making sure I had every last one, then went back to bed, somewhat baffled.
An hour later I woke again, and went back down to kitchen - to see ANOTHER half dozen maggots where the first ones had been, also wriggling across the room from right to left. I'm sure they hadn't been there an hour before.
Where the hell did they come from?
