Tail pack required

Over the next few weeks I need to do some overnight stays using the Transalp. I need to take a couple of days clothes and toiletries. I haven't time to buy and fit luggage.

Any other suggestions for something that J&S stocks?

Save yourself a load and get this from Oxford. Unless you're doing some serious round the world stuff you don't need to spend much.

Brands such as Rhinowalk and the like on Ali Express also do bargain luggage. Its what I use and hasn't failed in any weather.

If you can veer away from J&S have a look at Rhinowalk - been using them over the past 4 years and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them - more like 50 quid a for a 30l, crazy value imho...

The cam straps are a worthy upgrade, more secure (again imho) than either the supplied standard Krieger or Rhinowalk ones.

If it's only a few days 20L is probably big enough, and easier to sling a leg over!

J&S have plenty of the Oxford bags in stock, albeit somewhat more expensive than you might find elsewhere.

I'd go for the Aqua range with the roll top. Doesn't matter if you pack a lot or a little, you can roll it down to get a tight compact bag that won't move on the bike.

30L will probably be best for your needs.

Don't know what attachment system they have, but I tend to secure my bags with Rok straps, also available from J&S.

You'll get everything you need for under £100.

I’ve been using a pair Oxford Aqua T30 roll tops on the top of aluminium panniers for years. Also used one of them as a tail pack. They have lots of tie down options and a large Velcro strap on the base to go under the seat. I’ve used them in very, very wet conditions and never had a leak.

Fair to say I’m a fan. Never used Kriega but as the Oxford ones just work I wouldn’t pay the extra.

Get Rhinowalk. Either off of Amazon or Ali Express.

Used mine for about 5 years inc a few euro trips and hasn't let me down once.

The Kriega are ludicrously expensive in comparison and I see no benefit on a road bike.

And as a different perspective, just come back from 10 days touring in the Alps. All Kriega luggage, US10, US30 and two US5s on mine, as well as an R3 waist pack, and a US20 on hers.

Just my opinion, but pretty much perfection as far as soft luggage goes, and I’ve tried a few of the others listed above. Half of it is over 10 years old, has been extensively tested and I’d be very surprised if it’s not good for another 10. Quality is very high and genuinely a buy once purchase. Expensive definitely, but for me worth every penny. Residual value is high too, and will always resell on eBay for 50-70% of the new price.

Alternatively a Lomo drybag and a couple of Rok Straps, but not as nice to use.

I bought the Atlas T30 from J&S.

I've gone to fit it on my bike and two of the straps are missing!!!!!!

I had planned to set off first thing tomorrow. I am not sure now whether to bodge the Oxford onto the bike, or use a duffel with cargo net.

100% agree.

I have a fair few Kriega pieces now, US30, US20, Couple of US10’s US25 backpack and R3 Tailpack.

Some over 15 years old and some used almost daily and everything is still 100% waterproof, no zips have broken, nothing frayed or coming apart. Everything, despite being a bit grubby is as good as the day they were bought.

Looked at the Kriega US 30 Drypack. Compared to the Oxford it seemed quite basic - albeit I bet it had all the bloody straps in it - and was for all intents and purposes a duffel bag, with few additional features.

I know it’s a bit late in the day, but add me to the pile of Kriega fanboys on here. I’ve used my US20, US10 and R25 backpack every day (and I do mean every day) since 2006 ish. Still going strong. The US20 bounced down the M25 and was hit by a truck (my fault, I didn’t do the straps up in Cosham services) and still survived.

They are all up for retirement now, but the next set I buy will see me out.

These bags £10 have been good for me. I use extra straps over the ones that came with it. But three euro trips in no leaks so far.

Most of the Rhinowalk sellers on eBay and Amazon are just reselling from aliexpress so might as well just cut out the middleman and buy from there.

A colleague has all Rhinowalk kit and it seems fine. Not as nice quality as Kriega but a competent imitation. A bit flimsier but not awful.
