The government needs to spend more money!

Recently the Spanish PM announced that wild fires surprised the emergency services.

I call absolute bks. Every summer we have multiple fires across the continent. This year we have fires in the UK as well.

I think think its time for us to invest in multiple state owned fire fighting helicopters and planes and keep them in ready state in summer months.

What do you guys think is it worth the investment? Do we need to get used to the summer fires or is it not worth investing millions in equipment rarely used.

Is that what causes these fires in areas between cities? This is absolutely crazy. I really dont get it, you dont even have bins for the bbq, why would you do it there.

Now tell us about the snow ploughs that cost a small fortune and only come out for ten minutes every five years.

The answer to wildfires isn't buying lots of expensive equipment. It's simply implementing some serious fire-breaks all around the place. But the greenies will squeal like babies about 10,000 trees being felled instead of 100,000 trees being consumed by fire. Think of the poor squirrels...

Surely what causes fires is grass, not trees? Why do yiu want to cut trees? Trees pull the water up from under the ground

Boris wanted water cannons for mob control, maybe they could help prevent another great fire of London.

I think another good idea is Moats (not the Raoul variety) the folk in our country that do the most work to keep us safe and ensure the place is run properly could get some financial assistance to ensure theirs are kept clean what with them being too busy and all that.

Having spare water to flosh about in case it gets sunny again is always a good idea, a moat also acts as a decent security feature against casual burglars (but not inflatable dingy folk unfortunately) so its a win pretty much all round.

It's true there are more fires than ever before, what is the cause though, is it Faaaaar right arsonists ?

Funny how climate change is always negative, it never benefits us, too hot in the summer causing misery, too much rain in the winter causing misery, glaciers melting, sea levels rising, there must be some advantages to the world of a slight rise in the average temperature, would it not benefit the world if vast areas of permafrosted tundra could be cultivated to feed the world ?

I'd prefer them to fund the air ambulances first as these are vital year round and will have a much more positive effect on society

Of course it's nothing to do with leaving hedgerows, copse, open land and verges overgrown 'for the wildlife' then?
Karen on Facebook cries whenever someone cuts the grass, and the authorities are only too willing to side with that mindset to save money and stop general maintenance...leaving dry brush everywhere just waiting to catch fire because if carelessness!

Disposable BBQs have always been a wonder to me. How the juddering fk does someone actually cook food on one that is fit for human consumption, or warm even, its a tiny tray with some charcoal briquettes ffs. I can cook a sausage on a 6 ring gas BBQ for 17 days and it’s still not cooked fully through. Perhaps the problem with disposal BBQs is people give up trying to cook anything and are too pissed by then to care.

People can't be taxed and controlled if it were otherwise. Imagine going "Right this climate change is going to make plant life explode and crops massively increase their yields. Now, we want to tax you to death to stop it"

What it needs, which we don't have, is a PM with a spine, who then orders the dozens of helicopters we have in olive, pale and dark blue to be used immediately as fire bombers!!
The money has already been spent on the hardware and on the pilots, then FFS get them in the air and working instead of decorating various airshows.....

We only have a small handful of bambi buckets in Cyprus (where we obligations under the Soveriegn Base Areas treaty). We would need to procure more buckets and train more crews to use them.

We don't need any of that. Just a bit of rope and a bucket from Lidl will do. How hard can it be for the RAF/FAA to swing down and put out the fires. In fact, I remember the chip pan fire ads from the 1970's, so all they need is a big wet duvet to drop onto square miles of fire /sarcasm
