Compressor diaphragm

Hi,
I have an old SIP air compressor. Its nothing special and getting spare parts for it is difficult.
It's generally very reliable, but the cut-off diaphragm failed about four years ago and I couldn't get a replacement. So I made a new one from an old piece of inner tube, which works very well indeed. However inner tube rubber is clearly softer than the original and it lasted less than a year, as has each of the replacement ones I have subsequently made. Changing it is a prize fiddle and it would be nice to find something that lasts longer.
Here's a photo of the most recently failed one, showing the failure mode - a tear down the side.
Can anyone suggest a better material to make a replacement diaphragm from?
