Just my annual pet insuarance rant as Many Theives have just increased my premium by another 30% despite never having claimed, nor having a particulary old dog, and despite being loyal to them since she was a pup. A new like-for-like policy is 40% less.

So i'm moving on as I refuse to pay more for a dog than my car and house combined, and just had a question about pre existing conditions - I find the whole thing rather confusing.

Issues have all been minor and sorted by the vet directly. Over the last six years we've had one mild thorn scratch on the eye (drops), a grass seed in the ear (surgery), kennel cough twice (antibiotocs) and the sh!ts (probiotic paste). All cleared up perfectly within a few days / week and she's never suffered since. She's also never had to spend a night at the docs. Does that mean any eye / ear / lung / stomach issue would now be ruled out? If so i'm not sure what's left haha.

As of today she is perfectly fit and healthy and running around the garden chasing squirrels.

Short answer may well be maybe.
It can depend on each Insurers T and c's as to what they classify as pre-existing and what they will do should a similar event reoccur.
It can be even more of an issue on say Horse insurance where a problem with one leg caused by an infection or accident usually means no cover on any other leg too - this can be true of some Dog policies so again you really need to see what their policy says.
From experience Dog insurance premiums really start to ratchet up on their 7th birthday and this can be true even if no claims have been made.
The cost of a Vet has gone through the roof and this of course feeds automatically into the premiums.

Just spoke to LV who were actually very helpful and said the following would be covered after the following duration (post any symptoms);

Kennel Cough- 3 Months for respiratory issues
Eye Scratch - No exclusion for eye issues
Blood in Diarrhea - 12 Months for anything gastro
Grass seed in ear - 6 Months for any ear / hearing related issues on that side

Feels like common sense, and not the same blanket 'no' that i've had from other insurers.

Seems wrong to me..... All of those are common issues which are just down to chance. The'yre one off issues, not "conditions"?

Diabetes is a pre-existing condition, heart disease is a pre-existing condition, dodgy hips are a pre-existing condition. Everything you listed are just normal, everyday, one off conditions.

Yup. Couldn't agree more.

Try telling that to the insurers.
