Hastings survey about automatic dashcam footage uploads
Discussion
I just had a survey from Hastings asking how I feel about in car dashcams, and in particular how I would feel about getting various benefits like a discount if footage was continuously uploaded to them.
This is something that I wouldn’t entertain under any circumstances.
A) too much intrusion on privacy, plus like most people I don’t always drive 100% in accordance with the Highway Code
B) they’d use AI to assess the footage and that’s not going be a reliable accurate judge
C) this would waste a huge amount of energy so it’s a bad idea environmentally.

If you have dashcam footage of an accident, some companies are waiving your excess, even if it's your fault!
I'm unsure if Hastings are one of them, but it must save them a lot time, admin and back and forth stuff with a 3rd party establishing fault to have you not have to pay an excess.
