Go away tomorrow - or now we don t. Advice on refund TUI

We booked in May to go to Cyprus tomorrow, flight 3:20pm, all through TUI package deal just me and the Mrs.

She is pregnant and had 20 week scan today. Baby all good but issue with placenta - not said a straight no don’t go, as she is “borderline”. Decision ultimately with us. We have decided an hour ago not to go, unfortunate but sensible I think.

I have contacted TUI who will call me back in next 2 hours.

Any advice on getting refund welcome as I’ve never gone through this before? All booked on CC, I understand that helps.

We also have letter from doc saying don’t fly.

I would be very surprised if TUI gave any refund regardless of the circumstances - likewise a credit card claim wouldn’t hold up because it is the OPs decision and nothing that TUI have done, or rather not done.

As for an insurance claim, it will all depend on the terms and conditions of the policy, if the OPs wife is 20 weeks pregnant, then it is possible that they knew she was pregnant when the holiday was booked which may invalidate any claim relating to the pregnancy.

Best to look at the terms for the insurance policy although sadly I feel that the OP will lose his money - that said, health is far more important .

Doc said decision is with us but will write a letter should we decide not to go then we have it. Doc was pretty much 70/30 don’t go. Midwife who we saw 10 mins previous gave us the ‘borderline’ comment and felt a lot more 50/50, even 60/40 on going to be honest.

The issue isn’t that she is pregnant, why we aren’t going. It’s the complications we have found out only today.

My travel ins is Admiral and stipulates preg issues as eligible reason.

Admiral is insurance co so hopefully falls in not dodgy camp. All closed now but have contacted TUI, will expect a call tomorrow morning.

Cynical view: if the doctor thought you shouldn’t go he would say that in clear terms. Because then if you go and there is an issue he is off hook.

The fact that he isn’t saying that means (IMO) he thinks the risk is so remote that he isn’t at risk if you travel. He’s offering to write the letter to help you out with insurance in case you’re not comfortable travelling.

Fair enough - I know that insurance policies can be a minefield to navigate.

That’s a result then - I wasn’t sure which is why I said to look at policy. As I say, no amount of money can cover the health of your wife and child to be - I think not going is the right decision and that would be my decision even if I lost the cost of the holiday.

We had a similar incident a while ago, couldn’t fly due to the wife’s pregnancy, we got a doctors letter and claimed a full refund from the insurance. Only cost the insurance excess, the flights were with BA, we got naff all back from them.

That s a result then - I wasn t sure which is why I said to look at policy. As I say, no amount of money can cover the health of your wife and child to be - I think not going is the right decision and that would be my decision even if I lost the cost of the holiday.

Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for.

Expected a call back from TUI within 2 hours of 7:30 when spoke to them on their chat function but nothing yet.

Will try soon as they open tomoz. Keen to get sorted before departure time which I do think we can do.
