Buying a something just for the weekend.

I’m looking at buying something to use on the weekend, as I don’t fancy using the van. I’m thinking it’s possibly a waste of money, but I am looking to travel, hiking and wild camping, plus a few golf trips. It’s sort of a catch 22. Having briefly looked at camper vans. It’s probably not best going down that route, even the small motorhomes are expensive. Any suggestions would be great.

I’m not using anything at the moment. As I’ve only recently bought a house and so I’ve used the work van for everything really. But using it for any camping trips, or golf is a pain due to having to empty it completely. But as it would only be used on a weekend it seems a lot of money, but I can’t be work all the time.

If you don't want to spend a lot of money, a large estate car, something like a Volvo or Insignia, You could even sleep in it if you wanted to.

Most types of motorhomes and campervans cost silly money, unless they are fit for scrap.

Skoda superb for large estate or maybe something like a Nissan Elgrand or Merc Vito.
Something with a taller load space maybe a Ford S Max, with rear seats out they are huge in the back.

Why not just buy a smart estate for sensible money OR go full PH for a non sensible estate that'll have minimal depreciation put a big grin on your face but still be reliable

Not a bad suggestion. I’d love either. The house renovation is eating into the salary quite a bit. So it may have to be something sensible unfortunately.

What is wild camping (what does it mean for the OP). I used to own a motorhome and I "wild" camped in the UK a few times, and in Europe a few more times. But its largely been spoilt by the "van lifers" now and its getting more and more difficult to find suitable spots.

Also, wild camping is more demanding of equipment than eg staying in a campsite. Any reasonable campsite offers toilets, showers, washing up facilities, water on tap, fridge/freezers, etc etc and a lot have catering vans, bars, loan of barbeques, Wi-Fi etc so you need much less of your own kit.

I am guessing it would be one night only but then only the OP knows how much comfort they would seek on that night.
