I blows my mind how little people are willing to throw their lives away for, though it sounds like he was a bit entangled.
£21,000 might've been enough for a 10yr old used car and a half decent holiday. And he probably would've been stiffed anyway.
That reminds me of a pal eulogising the local drug dealer who got three years in Dartmoor. He squirreled away £25,000 in return which seemed like an epic sum to my pal and well worth it.
If I'd realised he was willing to live in restriction and misery for just over £8000 a year I would've started allocating him some suicide missions for peanuts.

Young, stupid, cheap, disposable. The perfect employees for the grunt work, as long as you have effective cutouts.
Trust is the hardest part of building an effective enterprise and this kind of stuff helps to remove that issue. I can see why it's a popular idea.
Not a million miles away from what at least one intelligence agency are pulling right now to target their enemy, though that usually seems to involve heavy coercion as much as it did an idiot getting paid.

It is one hell of a gamble for very little money it seems.
A quick Google for stats doesn't bring up anything concrete, but...
"approximately 60% to 70% of homicide cases result in a suspect being charged, according to 2024–2025 data from GOV.UK" combined with "80% of Crown Court cases" finding the suspect guilty.
So, at best, a 50/50 chance of being arrested, found guilty and then thrown in jail, for the rest of your life, for around what you would get paid on a minimum wage job for a year.
And when I say "at best", the odds are probably less in your favour if you are a bit of a dimwit and leave a trail of evidence, which most of these young, unexperienced, mentally lacking kids will do.

Surely you would want at least half up front?
From what I read about previous cases - eg. the attacks on Iranian media, Jewish buildings,the London warehouses supporting the Ukraine war, and Starmer's houses/cars, they get given small jobs and paid, and are sent small amounts up-front, then they get given bigger jobs. Even then, the money involved is tiny compared to the costs of having a "pro" in the country doing it.Surely you would want at least half up front?

Totally, I did try to look for some more specific statistics, but couldn't find any. I'd wager the chances of getting caught doing such a thing would be closer to 100% than 50%.Scotland police proudly claim this.
