Some pics from my first week of slr ownership

Now that's got potential - I'd clone out the pylon and crop the right third and bottom third. A great scene, but a bit more thought needed on composition before you press the button.
Looking at the others, keep an eye on those highlights - and a telephoto lens will help you get better riding shots. It's not easy to get great shots straight out of a DSLR!
Your animal portraits and the sunrise shot certainly show potential and I like the way you've got the horse's mane flowing - though a slightly slower shutter speed would give even more impression of movement. Glad to see that you're willing to experiment with cropping your images - though in the riding shots I'd recommend cropping so that the horse isn't in the middle of the image but rather is coming in to the picture, e.g.
Hope to see some more.

I like the pylon. Gives it more of a realistic edge. It's almost as if that is the focus of the walkers attention rather than the sunset. I would lose the bottom third though as suggested. Some nice shots for the first week.
