Hi Everyone posting on here once again for some of your kind expertise.

My Ls2 is in the local garage who are having quite a bit of trouble fitting a new pedders rack. Having should of done a bit more research beforehand regarding this, it's obviously not a straight swap, as the low pressure return doesn't fit properly.

They're struggling to line it up remotely which I've read can work for some but for some reason they just cant manage it. They then attempted to just use a rubber hose with some clamps but apparently the pipe burst quite quickly which has me a bit stumped.

After some reading up on here I've seen that I basically need a CV8 return pipe or get one made. I'd be very thankful for some pointers on where and how to get this sorted.

Again, your help is very much appreciated.

You might consider a cheeky phone call to Pedders UK. Ask for Roger, he used to own & run what was 'Monkfish' arguably the best Monaro/VXR8 specialist at the time.
Or you could call Walkinshaw Performance.
There are others too, that might be able to advise on the issue.

Thanks for the reply Lincls1

I did call pedders earlier but cannot remember who I spoke to, they apologetically couldn't help as apparently I'm the second person in the past few weeks who called up with the same issue.

Will give Walkinshaw tomorrow and see if they can help

The pedders quick rack is designed for a vy cv8 or vxr 2004 car (big boot single exhaust)
The hi/low pressure ports on the rack of a vz cv8 5.7 or vxr 6.0 2005 ( small boot duel exhaust) are reversed in position so you either need an 2004 vy low pressure pipe or massage the vz one to fit the reversed location

You could reach out to Gary Clay, a well known breaker of Monaro cars in the UK.
He may be able to supply a good used pipe that you need.

Be patient. biglaugh
He's not that great at getting back to you quickly, but he has supplied many of us with good used parts over the years.

Or a bloke called Brett, another previously well known Monaro breaker.

Evening L2VXR,

I was aware of this but they said the original pipe is nowhere near able to fit, how hard they are trying I do not know but even after fitting with a flexi instead the hose had blown off, just a bit confused as it's a return low pressure, is it still that much to be able to cause that? Thought it would be about 10 psi max.

Lincsls1,

Thanks for the contacts, you're a star. Hopefully they have a used one, as I have the VX pipe in a basket from aus that I can put hold for the time being.

The stock low pressure side of the system has connections in it made up of rubber hose and jubilee clips so a repair should be ok if done well . Some people have used 10mm copper central heating pipe to fashion a repair. But the low pressure port on your old rack is the high pressure on the quick rack so it sounds like there not not taking this into consideration but its difficult to judge from a keyboard laugh

Another thought is has it already got a quick rack fitted and the pipes would be a direct fit as they have already been switched around (even the correctly fitting pipes are an absolute pain to fit)scratchchin

I found it best to fit the pipes loosely with the rack hanging off the car then refit the rack and finish tightening them with a crow foot type socket on several long extensions from the front of the car down by the battery/ac compressor area

From memory (they'd want to check this...!) the ports on the rack are M14x1.5 and M16x1.5 thread scratchchin

The high pressure side needs one of the o-ring fitting types, it's a fairly standard fitting for power steering, for example

Anyway, they could stick adapters to an AN fitting on the high pressure side and a simple barb fitting on the low pressure side, and just make up some hoses if necessary.

There are threads on the US forums (ls1gto) of people making up AN hoses for their power steering (obviously ours are different lengths)

I made up AN hoses for mine, but I'm using an electric hydraulic pump instead of the factory belt driven one, so different lengths and different fittings on the pump end.
