Apple ID - Recurring locked account

For the last few months I’ve experienced regular requests to enter my Apple ID on my devices (iPhone and iPad), sometimes that’s all that is required, but often the account is locked, I unlock it with the security questions and all is well until the next time. Today alone this has happened three times, yesterday it was twice. It often happens in spells like this and then nothing for a week or so.

I’ve changed my password a couple of times (it’s just a random collection of numbers, mixed-case letters and symbols), but keeps recurring.

Not a big deal, but I’m intrigued to know if anyone else experiences this and if there is any insight into why it happens (I assume it’s constant attempts to access is from other devices, but why?) Also, is there anything I can do to limit the frequency?

Sounds like repeated attempts to login by someone who probably has a username/email very similar to yours

I have never had those issues at all, my account is an early iCloud account from July 2007, but equally I manage my parents' iCloud accounts as well as my daughters and haven't had any issues with any of them, ever.
