Mobile auto electrician recommendation - Woking/Guildford
Discussion
The iDrive screen on my BMW F31 is on the blink. Most likely a faulty cable or head unit, but I don't trust myself to not break anything in taking apart the dashboard.
Any recommendations on a mobile electrician? I've tried contacting Auto Electric Diagnostics in Dorking but no response.
Also any idea of relative costs to have a mobile electrician come out to you versus dropping the car off? Never used one before so don't know how much more expensive the convenience factor is.

It won't be the cable. They are surprisingly easy to get out with a set of trim tools, and some torx. Plenty of videos on youtube.
However, that won't determine whether it's the screen or the headunit has failed, likely to be the latter. Did it suddenly fail, or showed signs before it died?
I've never used them, by https://www.cartronics.co.uk/ are well regarded. A little further, in West Byfleet, however they have diagnostics & repair services.

Hmm, maybe I will take a look at YouTube then (and risk my wife discovering me in the garage curled up in the foetal position surrounded by unused screws from another botched job However, that won't determine whether it's the screen or the headunit has failed, likely to be the latter. ).BMW forums suggest the HSD2 video cable seems to fail more often than the HU. The screen was a sudden failure, not gradual. And completely blank suggesting hardware not software.
I've used Cartronics once about 30 years ago lol. They come recommended but unfortunately not mobile.
