Beware the new cameras on Calder Road westbound. Apparently collecting 'data' on drivers and their unsafe practices (on a mobile, no seatbelt, etc).
It's for research apparently and uses AI to process the data and in some cases passes the information onto plod. They'll have a field day, as the festival is on, there are roadworks further up slowing the traffic down, allowing folks the opportunity to have a quick look at their mobile and so on.

Anyways - cameras / AI extended to the A720 (city bypass) and the A1.
Littercam apparently, especially for those who chuck rubbish out of their car when on the move.

Littercam ... At last! Scotland's roads and streets are long overdue a clean-up. The infuriating minority who chuck or dump rubbish everywhere need to be hit hard in the pocket. Or simply be hit. Hard.

What's the downside?

They have them in Glasgow as well now, just off the M80 at jct2 Robroyston.

The downside is that most people think they are speed cameras and slam on the anchors in the style of an emergency stop when they notice them.

I don't know how they think they'll catch many people on their phones as these days people don't actually seem able to hold a phone to their ear, they hold it flat in front of them on speakerphone and shout at it - which I wouldn't have thought a camera could easily spot.
