Seems lots of threads on the Airlines charging...
Checking in for a Neilson Holiday using Jet2 , for self and wife, and 13yr old daughter.
Plenty rows of three available for 'pre-allocated' seating.
but to rinse £55 out of us, they place my 13yr old on her own

Sure and of course it is simply bad luck that of the three that got split it was the child....

Budget airline in price gouging shocker? They literally charge you for everything these days, so I'm not that surprised tbh. I guess there's a choice, but it probably means paying a bit more money?

On a short flight, because it’s not a service/feature that appears good value. I don t know who s happier, him or me.
On this one, it wasn’t an option apparently.
I suspect very much they’ll offer nearer/at check-in. I suspect we’ll refuse and they’ll sit us together anyway.

Jet2 are the miserable here, not the inferred cheapness of the passengers
I have no problem at all with either me or partner not sitting next to our children. I'd rather have lower fares tbh, and pay for precisely the elements of the trip I'd value.

but to remove a 13yr old from the travel group to sit on own ?
does that seem 'right' when plenty of seats where all three can seat are available?
It's just an extra tax. I'm surprised more don't do it. Similar to the stupid and annoying baggage rules where some don't allow any carry on other than a tiny bag, just to charge more

Often here people complaining their bag was extra or the seat allocation or their xyz.
I don’t want any of those things. So I pay only for what I need, an unallocated seat. Means I pay the very base price. Given I fly back and forward sometimes a few times a month, that means for me £30 or so each way and I can afford to do it. I couldn’t afford to do it if it meant sponsoring everyone else to bring a bag or choose a seat or have a free meal onboard or whatever additions many might like but I don’t need and don’t want to contribute to them being ‘free’ for everyone else.

Yes it is a really sh***y thing to do but unfortunately that's the game to screw down the headline fare cost as much as possible. For us customers the game is to enforce our consumer rights as much as possible (delay compensation etc etc). I think deliberately placing people apart in the same booking is unethical personally. tty thing to do Appreciate particularly poor when it's booked as part of a package though.
Budget airlines are a bus with wings. You wouldn't jump on a bus and expect to all get a seat next to each other. If you want that, book an Uber. You sit where they put you. If you all want to sit together, then you pay for it. Just because seats together are free now, they might not be further down the line.
