Things you will always spend money on

As an opposite to the begrudging thread, what things will you always be willing to pay for/ pay more for?


Mine are:

- independent coffee shops with a good roast that doesn t just taste like costa burnt slop
- cooked chicken/ ready to eat chicken from M&S, I just went to Tesco and theirs is the same price (3.50) but tescos is full of water, so pays to shop around
- good meat in general, slow reared chicken, proper beef etc, same with veg, got to be M&S if the farm shop doesn’t stock it, and same with bread
- a gym with a good spa area, even if I don t use it much, it s worth it for when you want to relax and not get sticky feet like at the local leisure centre
-Spotify premium - I m sick of American cooperations making a awful app/ streaming service and Spotify is the only one il accept, I m in the car 3-5 hours on anyday so offline and no adds is essential to me
-100% cotton clothing, I refuse to buy anything made from plastic, it costs the same these days and makes you sweat your tits off.

A decent mattress. Having a good one which gives you a decent night's sleep is worth every penny.

100% agree on Spotify premium, for the £20 a month for the family version we definitely get our money's worth.

I've been having the conversation regarding a new mattress with the Mrs recently. Simba is £100 a month interest free for a year with a 200 day return window. She thinks it's not worth it and wants to buy the cheapest she can find. My back hurts just thinking about it.

We went to an indi and spent a packet on a new mattress £1k ish maybe a touch more a couple of yrs ago. It's not that great to be be honest. A bit lumpy, plus very heavy to turn and too thick for fitted sheets. The old mattress (a cheapo one that came with the bed) went onto the spare bed and is now the most comfortable bed in the house.

Mattresses are difficult, you don't necessarily get what you pay for.

Don’t bother! They’re awful, get a proper decent sprung mattress from John Lewis or something, I had a tempur for 8 years aswell as back pain, got a new mattress and then no back pain

Sky Q. Other providers may be cheaper, but their interface isn't even close to Sky Q. It's miles better of every other alternative that I've seen with friends and family.

My 87 y/o mum arrives and within 5 mins she's sussed it and is setting up recording of all the crap she's going to watch during her stay.

I couldn't agree.....less. I don't know how Heinz are still in business, as their stuff is overpriced and usually inferior to cheaper alternatives. A triumph of marketing over reality. Their baked beans are terrible.

I have the tempur mattress and pillow. I take the pillow everywhere I can if sleeping away.

There's a massive contradiction in this post.

Cooked / ready to eat chicken from M&S is not what I'd call "good meat". In fact, M&S really isn't the place to be buying chicken at all. They try to disguise what they're selling with branding - "Oakham Gold" and other similar style names. They do sell proper free range chicken, but they don't stock much of it and you need to look for it. However, anything cooked and pre-packaged is factory reared chicken.
