Apology to Porsche owners

I'll say "I'm sorry" now.....I'd long been part of the 'It's a Porsche, so what?' contingent, getting a bit bored of EVO saying how good they always are and one winning eCOTY every time.
A couple of weeks back I got to spend about 500 miles (some of those around a circuit) in a 996 Turbo, albeit as a passenger.
Damn.....they really ARE that good, aren't they?? :o
I'll still be going for a TVR when I have the money, but I can see why you guys spent your cash where you did. Fine purchase! :thumbup:

I have massive respect for TVR's performance, and bangs for the buck, they are up with the best.
Unfortunately, all i have ever heard about, is the negativaty toward thier reliability/quality issues, which must cloud the feelings of ownership.
Porsches certainly aren't cheap in most peoples eyes, but compared with the likes of Ferrari, Lambos etc, are positively great value.
I certainly believe you get what you pay for.

peterpeter - as for spending money, at the moment I'm not sure. I did have a budget in mind, but I think I may be able to stretch considerably further than I first thought.
That probably would give me the ability to buy something different (e.g. suitably priced 993, etc.), but my TVR itch HAS to be scratched!!!

Not really, in the dark at 6am, they do tend to look the same, especially when ones trying to get in your boot, its a look thats worked well for Porsche over the years, i'm not knocking them...

Agreed.
Largely due to the much larger volumes of cars made by Porsche now second hand values are suffering. I know of a 2000/2001, mint, silver 996 TT in LHD that just sold for circa £39K ! Engine just about worn in nicely by then ! New I still find Porsches prohibitive, 2nd hand I think they become great value for money - relatively speaking of course.

The 996tt is the best car in the world. I have a 997tt on order purely on the strength of how good the 996tt is and I strongly suspect when the damn thing is finally released that will become the best car in the world.
The only thing I will say is that the Sagaris is prooving to be utterly amazing in so many depts. I didnt expect, that I now find myself questioning whether I will want to keep the Porsche, or just sell and make the £10k instant money that new 911 turbos make these days. That I can say that sentence speaks volumes about how good the Sagaris is. That I still dont know the answer to my quandry speaks volumes about how sure I am that, an as yet unreleased car, the new Turbo will be *that* good.

Well, with the 997 Carrera S lapping a track faster than a 240R on FG (subject to driver elsewhere, obviously), it looks like the 997TT will be something pretty special, DJC.
I know more power doesn't instantly mean it will be great, but it seems a little unlikely Porsche would make a mess of it.

I know there will always be the piss taking between marques, picking on something about whichever car but in most cases that's just fun, but thanks to having the privilege to be in some fantastic and varied motors over the past few years, I've learnt to not judge too quickly, certainly not with any conviction.
I used to wonder what the deal was with Beemers, until I drove (and was driven) in an E39 M5. It did things round a track I didn't think it would ever do.
