Travelling back from Bangor to Warrington at about 4 pm yesterday. For ~15 miles from Llanfairfechan, through the Conwy Tunnel past Colwyn Bay, the eastbound carriageway was restricted to one lane with nothing in lane 2. No cones, no accident, etc.

Initially there were signs indicating lane closed ahead and some saying "Accident". The red X's were activated through the tunnels. But absolutely no visible reason.

There were yellow roadworks signs alerting that a lane would be closed from 7:30 pm.

Added about 1/2 hour to our journey (and that of thousands of others), unnecessarily, causing much frustration.

Highways Wales, you should hang your heads in shame.

Why would a monopoly organisation care about you and your delays? biggrin You can't go to another supplier like you can with your electricity, gas or groceries. No doubt Highways will come up with the safety excuse, or the concrete around a hole was setting, or that they were too lazy to do anything about it.

Two coaches crashed into each other around that time, but if it was that, odd there was no evidence of it.

There was a coach in live Lane 1 that we thought had broken down, with Police and Traffic Officer in attendance. They had closed an onslip at Colwyn. That was in the left hand lane, and although disruptive, only had about 50 m of cones before the coach. It did not appear to be related to the Lane 2 closure.

It's possible that the coach crash was in Lane 2 or across both lanes. But 1/2 a mile of restriction would have been sufficient, and a quicker reaction to the clearance would have saved a lot of the problems.

Traffic has now cleared following the earlier disruption.
